Ruth Roman (n e Gold) was born in Lynn in Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Lithuanian Jews Mary Pauline and Abraham Roman. When she was a young girl, Roman's father, a carnival barker, passed away in a tragic way, which caused her mother, Mary Pauline (Gold) to work as cleaner or waitress to help them remain alive. Ruth was raised in the poorest neighborhood in Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. Following only two school years she left for an acting career. She faced many obstacles on her path to success. In New York she was hired to do a photo shoot for a magazine about crime and drama, however no theater job opportunities came up. After a brief stint as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go home to the United States and quit her position. It was there that she made a buck working as an usherette during the day, and at night was a part of the New England Repertory Company. It was her first role as an actor. She has also been accepted into Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
